Juror's Statement
I'm delighted to judge this year's Waterloo Watercolor Exhibit.
Technique in this group of paintings was a given. I
chose work that expressed a mood
or feeling, a personal vision, originality and good design
quality. The award winning
paintings had form and content and I chose them because I
couldn't stop looking at
them.
A quote from Clement Greenberg -- noted art critic --
"Realize that some expressions
are better than others. Better, has some meaning, and
you can feel in your gut what
quality is".
However, all jurying is the subjective opinion of one
person. Keep painting, and I thank
each of you for entering the show.
I have one comment about those who entered 2-3
paintings. They sometimes did not
seem to have been painted by the same artist or the same
hand. Try to enter paintings
of a similar style for the same show. A juror looks for
consistency.
